Not the best in the series submitted by ashflowtuff on August 25, 2016, 9:56am I still enjoyed this book - Octavia Butler is a great great storyteller - but to me it didn't measure up to Wild Seed or Mind of My Mind. The story is quite dark, hopeless, and violent. But it's still compelling and interesting. Also, I strongly recommend reading the Patternist series in the order they were written in, not in chronological order. If you read this book third (chronologically), before reading Patternmaster (written first and last chronologically), you have no context for why this book is even considered part of the Patternist series.
