Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother's mysterious death, he's lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he is tracked down by a man he's never met -- a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants, and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision.

Magnus Chase submitted by Kitty001 on June 18, 2016, 6:18am Very good book and quite entertaining. It has a few major plotholes, but if you're just looking for something entertaining to read for a while, this would be a good choice. It tells the story of a 16-year-old boy who gets sucked up into another world and thoroughly messes things up. Check out other books by Rick Riordan for more of the Mythology/Adventure style.

Great Book submitted by hannahjosh on June 20, 2018, 7:07am I think that this book should be read by, 4th through 7th graders. I think that Rick Riordan has wrote amazing books! The Magnus Chase series is about Norse mythology. I hope that other people will like this book. Also there are two other books in the trilogy. The Hammer of Thor (Book 2), and The Ship of the Dead (Book 3). I'm in the middle of book 2.

Fun Addition to the Percy Jackson Universe submitted by choichr on June 10, 2022, 2:35pm Similar to the popular Percy Jackson series, the new Magnus Chase series follows the modern world meets mythology template. The Magnus Chase series focuses on Norse mythology. The characters are funny, face challenges, and evolve throughout the story. It is a fun read. If you enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, you will also enjoy the Magnus Chase series.

The Sword of Summer submitted by SBNB on June 22, 2022, 10:51pm I first read this a few years ago, and as an adult, I found it somewhat entertaining but rather annoying and weird. However, just like the Percy Jackson series, they grew on me in the years after I first read them, and I am now planning to read the rest of the series.

Don't skip Magnus Chase! submitted by ewraback on July 10, 2023, 9:19pm Originally when these books came out I refused to read them because Percy Jackson is just too good! However, this definitely lives up to the Riordan-verse books. Magnus Chase is very funny and sarcastic. He cares deeply about his family and friends. I think the story is extremely unique and engaging. The characters are what carries this book, they are diverse and interesting. I highly recommend reading this book! Also, stay tuned for Annabeth Chase's appearance in the book (they're cousins!).
