The first in a great series submitted by apicknell on June 13, 2015, 2:44pm Do you love a good historical mystery? Have you read Maureen Jennings yet? Have you seen the show, Murdoch Mysteries? Come drink the Kool-aid as painted by Jennings of a Victorian police detective in colonial Canada trying to manage his innovative police procedures and conservative love life. Jenning's main character is Detective William Murdoch, a man of principles whose investigative mind can't forget the strange circumstances of a young prostitute's death. Murdoch himself is somewhat out of touch in a world of rough-and-touble police work where his newer, scientific methods are often met with scorn. Jennings writes a wonderful historical world filled with rich detail of the period. If you find yourself enjoying her work, I encourage you to check out Yannick Bisson's interpretation of Murdoch on the Canadian Broadcasting Company's award winning series, The Murdoch Mysteries, available through the Ann Arbor District Library for your viewing pleasure.
