Not a great cover, but an awesome book submitted by kjshaffer on August 9, 2015, 4:10pm This is an awesome young adult book with a strong female heroine. The concept is great and the writing beautifully done. I read this as an adult and it leaves nothing to be desired. I recommend it to high school kids who love fantasy novels.

Robin McKinley!!! submitted by www.net on July 22, 2018, 2:36pm I reread this book constantly, and enjoy it every time. I love all of this author's books, but this is one of my favorites. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy.

Great read! submitted by SolaireFQ on August 11, 2018, 7:57pm This is a really unique fantasy story. Great plot and interesting characters.

Still the Best submitted by sally.m.maier on June 16, 2023, 11:21am I read this book as a teen, and continue to re-read it as an adult. The characters are well-rounded, the setting is fully fleshed out, a delightful mix of familiar and magically exotic, and the plot is amazing, a captivating adventure that pulls you to stay up reading long past your bedtime.

What is striking to me is that there are parts of the story where the characters are at rest, where the setting is tranquil, and where the action seems distant, and the reader never gets bored. Instead, you find yourself at rest with the characters, taking a breath and settling in with the peace and wonder of the new setting while never really forgetting the situation. What it boils down to is that looking back at those moments you realize how immersive the story truly is, that you feel not just the book’s excitement but it’s calm moments as well, and that’s quite tricky to pull off. This story does it masterfully.
