Breach is coming to get you submitted by pkooger on March 12, 2012, 1:08pm Whoa. This book blew my mind. It's like a cross between The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and .... um..... an Escher painting. It all starts with the dumped body of a Jane Doe. On the surface the case looks like ordinary street violence, but Inspector Borlu knows that all the facts do not add up. When the Jane Doe turns out to be an archaeologist who was researching the existence of a supposedly mythical civilization, Borlu soon finds himself contending with violent right-wing extremists, foreign police, and a string of disappearances. On top of it all, Borlu has to watch his step or Breach, the shadowy international secret police, will make him disappear too. Is Breach an ally or an enemy? Nobody knows and certainly nobody wants to find out.

This book has won awards and been on several "Best Of" lists, and very rightly so.

Loved it submitted by ashflowtuff on July 5, 2012, 9:17am This book is well-written and fascinating. Part murder mystery, part political thriller, part science fiction. I highly recommended it.

The city and the city submitted by edwardvielmetti on June 17, 2016, 5:12pm The concept of two cities that coexist in space but where citizens of one dare not recognize the other should be familiar territory for town-gown relationships between Ann Arbor and UM. Read this fascinating science fiction thriller with that in mind!

Classic murder mystery in an unconventional environmental submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 21, 2019, 10:20pm This novel is a fairly classic murder mystery set in the most unconventional environment I could imagine... and that made it fantastic. It's hard to figure out what to say, because the blurb doesn't give it away, and we discover what's unique as we read and through the main character's interaction with the world, so I don't want to give away the spoiler, either. (Although pretty much every review out there does, so it's easy to find out what's so fascinating if you want to know before picking up the book.) Let's just say that there's an almost impenetrable border between where the murder was committed and where the body was dumped, and that makes investigating the crime into a fascinating exercise. Mieville is a creative and innovative writer who is well worth your time. Solving the murder and foreseeing the ending was pretty easy, though, and I rarely read mysteries, which is why I only give this four stars.

The City & the City submitted by KatyaS on July 12, 2019, 8:39pm Great fantasy book.

Why didn't I like it?! submitted by Janet ledford on December 15, 2019, 7:00pm I know so many people who like this book. I like the author. I liked the idea! But I just couldn't get into the book at all.

Bends your mind! submitted by emuehlbe on July 9, 2023, 7:35pm This book has such a great premise, and you wonder whether the author can pull it off, but he absolutely does---if you like odd worlds, puzzles, and detective fiction, I think you'll like this.
