Excellent submitted by smgop on July 30, 2016, 8:04pm This was a hard book to read because of the abuse Ada had to endure at the hands of her mother, but it showed the triumph of goodness and shows how any soul can blossom with kindness.

Amazing! submitted by susanlam on August 20, 2017, 8:04pm This book is riveting because of the way you as a reader feel so invested in the characters. The pacing and language draw you along, and I found it really engaging to see a bit of World War II through Ada's eyes, especially after all she'd gone through before evacuating to the country. Highly recommended!

Best book ever! submitted by EllieN-W on June 16, 2018, 8:31am It was an amazing book, showing bits of World War II through the eyes of a little girl in England. It also helped people understand how good there life is compared to Ada's with her club foot.

The War that Saved my Life submitted by mslotnick on June 24, 2019, 1:15pm Great book! Riveting story, and a good message.

The War That Saved My Life
By: Kimberly Brubaker Bradley
Ada has a twisted foot (club foot) she lives in London with her horrid mother and her younger brother Jamie in a flat. She’s not allowed to go out. They lived in a very poor neighborhood during World War 2. Her brother gets shipped off to the country and Ada comes too. You might like this if you like action and adventure.

The War That Saved My Life submitted by EuniceWe on August 27, 2020, 7:22pm The War That Saved My Life was a story I will never forget, it told a story from the perspective of a fictional girl named Ada who had a twisted foot (Clubfoot), she has a little brother named Jamie and a mother, when I read it my heart broke, she was treated poorly and slapped a lot by her mother, who did not want her going outside because of her clubfoot. Until one day World War 2 struck, her mother sent her brother to somewhere safe and Ada knew it was her chance to escape, she sneaked out and started a new adventure with Jamie. I think it was a great book and rated it 5 stars because the plot and the story was very interesting and I didn't want to put the book down! You probably will like this book if your like adventure and likes to learn history (there is some very interesting things in this book about World War 2)

Great submitted by avgriffith on September 28, 2020, 6:46pm This book was amazing and heart filled. It was a story of sadness and bravery.

Really Good submitted by jakabs on June 11, 2021, 2:53pm A heartwarming and sad story of WWII through a child's eyes. It also deals with the struggles of having a clubbed foot. Really good story. Highly recommend

Educational, Important, Wonderful submitted by ReadBooks on June 23, 2021, 10:12pm I adored The War That Saved My Life. It is chalk full of details and information about World War II and that time period, and what it was like to be alive then (from Ada's perspective.) I have read this book many times, and it is one of my favorites. It was a sad yet beautiful story that everyone should read. It not only deals with the struggles of living during World War II, but also family and being differently-abled.

What a perfect book. submitted by graytabby on August 1, 2021, 10:14pm Heart-wrenchingly sad, Ada, having a clubbed foot, has to stick to her brother Jamie while surviving WWII.

Beautifully crafted works submitted by Diananana on June 19, 2022, 9:37pm In The War That Saved My Life, and its companion, The War I Finally Won, Kimberly Brubaker Bradley tells a richly detailed story of a girl battling for her own personhood as England battles Hitler during World War II. Meticulously researched and purposefully written, these compelling books are deserving of the acclaim they have received, including the Newbery Award for the first title. I have read them to my grandson, and I, myself, have read them a number of times. We have found them inspirational when we are facing our own hardships.

heartbreaking in the best way submitted by AnnieKelly on July 10, 2022, 9:44am Truly a wonderful book. It provides a different perspective on world events without being too heavy handed. Truly a joy to read.
