A Woman Did it First! submitted by KPNF on August 11, 2022, 6:14am We borrowed this book because we were heading to the Falls on vacation and have always enjoyed Van Allsburg’s books and illustrations. But we were really surprised to learn that the first person to survive going over the falls was a middle-aged woman! The story and illustrations made us feel how scary it was to do what she did and we were so upset on behalf of Annie Taylor when she was rejected by the public and forgotten by history. Good read for all before you head to the Falls or learn about the Falls.

Wow! submitted by Xris on June 14, 2023, 2:28am Wow! I'd heard about this story on NPR, but didn't realize she was 62 when she did it. Sorry that she didn't get a nice retirement from the endeavor.
