A teen idol at fifteen, an international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at twenty, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences as a painfully misunderstood child actor in Ohio uprooted to the wild counterculture of mid-seventies Malibu, where he embarked on his unrelenting pursuit of a career in Hollywood.

Excellent book submitted by denisemw on July 15, 2011, 7:56pm Very well written book. Insider's look at entertainment industry, problems being a celebrity, etc.
Great Story submitted by Beth Manuel on August 1, 2011, 11:23am Like a lot of women my age, I had a big crush on Rob Lowe in the 70's and 80's. In reading his autobiography, I enjoyed his voice, stories and reading about his brushes with fame before he was even famous! This book piqued my interest in watching The Outsiders again.
Unexpectedly Wonderful submitted by monkk on August 7, 2011, 12:27pm I was persuaded by a friend to give this book a shot. I was hooked in the first chapter. Rob Lowe does an excellent job as narrator of his life and his stories are incredible. Stories I Only Tell My Friends is a great book with MANY celebrity cameos.
crazy! submitted by airgood on August 4, 2014, 11:16am The sheer number of people that Rob Lowe seems to have just run into made this book very surprising. His life seems to have intersected with some great talents and historical events. Parts of the book were a bit dry because he recounts some of his movies in so much detail, but overall the book is quite interesting.
Wonderful Reading submitted by kathleen824 on July 29, 2017, 10:31pm Told in a way that was respectful and insightful
Stories I Only Tell My Friends submitted by SBNB on June 14, 2019, 10:58pm I enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see what Hollywood and the film industry was like back when names like Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise were coming into their own. I hadn’t heard of Rob Lowe until The West Wing, and I was surprised to see how much of a history he has as an actor.
Insider’s view of Brat Pack submitted by A2AE on July 27, 2020, 6:12am I don’t ever read books by or about Hollywood actors but gave this a try after enjoying a podcast interview with Rob Lowe. Overall the stories are engaging, surprising, and entertaining; my problem was that several people who saw me reading this pointed out that Lowe is now a Trumper and left his Green Peace days with Jane Fonda behind him. That knowledge left a superficial aftertaste.
