Deer-resistant and immune to typical garden insects and diseases, mosses offer erosion control and help prevent water run-off. Try placing these magical plants between rocks, along pathways, or even as lawn for a velvety green backdrop. The variations in color, texture, shape, and even size will amaze you. In this inspiring guide, Annie Martin--Mossin' Annie to her fans--covers the essentials for creating an extraordinary moss garden. With profiles of the best mosses to grow and expert tips on planting and care, you can create fascinating combinations and establish a verdant oasis to enjoy for years to come,"--page [4] of cover.

Taught me enough to learn that moss gardening would not be for me submitted by aprille on July 22, 2018, 9:57am Written by a bona fide moss enthusiast, I learned that while moss is not picky about soil and can be a good substitute for grass in some places, it requires a lot of care. In order to keep it healthy and mold-free, you have to pick up all debris from other plants that falls on it, and you can't use a rake, because the tines damage the moss. I hate, hate, hate leaf blowers (the recommended solution) and so I won't be installing a moss garden. Also, these gardens require constant weeding and although its possible to hand weed (and repair the holes in your moss left behind) the author encourages the use of herbicides, which leave the moss unscathed. The pictures in the book are lovely.
