Good submitted by 0liviap0pp on July 1, 2011, 6:47am A book created after the movie. Not bad.

Wonderful! submitted by adilaura on July 1, 2011, 7:05pm A great novel by CS Lewis. Sets the background for the rest of the Narnia books.

cool submitted by sauerr on July 7, 2011, 4:49pm good series

Great book! submitted by ldupuis44 on July 7, 2011, 8:11pm This book sets the scene for all the others. It is creatively written with amazing characters that you end up missing badly because you don't really see them again.

good submitted by ColeenT on July 15, 2011, 12:16pm good book

don't read this book first! submitted by camelsamba on July 28, 2011, 1:59pm I initially read this nearly 30 years ago, and maybe once since, but didn't remember it at all. My 7yo brought home a The Chronicles of Narnia compilation*, which put this book first, so he insisted we read it that way. Although I find myself siding with the "read them in the order they were written" crowd, I figured it would be okay, since he was already familiar with The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

There are many parts of this story that are magical and lyrical and wonderful, but I also found the writing style to be a bit tiresome at times. I've been re-reading Narnia books in the past few years, and I don't remember having that reaction to others - maybe it was because I was reading this one aloud?

C.S. Luis is your pusher submitted by ferdoble on July 31, 2011, 9:09pm The first book in this series is wonderful and imaginative. The following are still pretty good, but they get increasingly pushy on the religious front. By the end it just feels like I’m being yelled at by a priest, who is telling me to go to church.

The audio books are narrated by Patrick Stuart, who does a fantastic job, I recommend it.

Nice submitted by pritip on June 18, 2012, 4:02pm good book

Great submitted by lec.dank on July 26, 2013, 10:21pm Amazing. Brings back memories.... Lol.

Creation submitted by mtrax on August 1, 2014, 8:31am I love this take on the creation story, with Aslan singing the various things into being.

Words of Woods between the Worlds submitted by terpsichore17 on July 24, 2017, 9:44pm The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is where to start reading the Narnia books, but once you've done so, you may safely read the tale of Diggory (so worried for his sick mother!) and Polly, wicked Uncle Andrew, humble king Frank, Jadis the empress of Colney-Hatch, and (best of all!) a brand new Narnia so fresh and vibrant and verdant that the very coins dropped from a pocket grow into golden trees.

Such an excellent read for any reader looking for new worlds.

Good submitted by zmclaugh on August 2, 2018, 5:41pm Interesting things happening with the world and mythology in this one.

Won't Help You Go to Sleep!! submitted by gwdaver on August 11, 2018, 6:01pm This book is most appropriate for 6 and up, there are some parts that are tense and a little scary. We read it as a family and the 8 year old could not wait to finish it on her own. Love the series and this is where it all starts. My dad is thinking about adapting it into a campaign.

Descriptive and entertaining submitted by clucas on June 16, 2019, 10:00pm Read this with my 9 and 11 year olds. Both were interested and we loved all the details and descriptions. It was a good story and sets it up for the next book in the series.

Awesome Start submitted by if2byu on July 23, 2019, 8:15pm This is really a world building book. There isn't a whole lot of depth to it. It is a fast read (as an adult) but really does a good job of setting the stage for what is to come.

Spoilers much? submitted by majean on July 27, 2019, 3:43pm How rude of all the people posting spoilers in these reviews! It's supposed to be a surprise at the end of the book!

Wonderful book submitted by abigailmurphy on July 29, 2019, 11:50am This is a GREAT book. It tells about the creation of the magical land of Narnia. I love it!

What a world submitted by Princess Cimorene on July 21, 2020, 12:01am I loved the worldbuilding in this book as a kid. To this day, worldbuilding is the reason I gravitate toward fantasy. I think this might be my favorite book in the series for this reason.

My favorite book in the Narnia series submitted by james.p.t.kennedy on August 11, 2022, 11:19am I loved this book so much as a child. There are so many amazing "mental images" in this story. From the dead world of Charn where a cold red supergiant star looks down on the remains of a civilization destroyed by the magical equivalent of a total nuclear war (as a child I never realized that "the deporable word" is just a nuke). To the quiet liminal space of "the Wood between the Worlds" where you can travel from earth to hundreds of other "worlds" (they only visit two in this story. To the dawn of Narnia--where the story leads us at the very beginning--as Aslan makes the world from out of nothing. This is just such a beautiful story.
