"Theodora is a perfectly normal duck. She may swim with a teacup balanced on her head and stay north when the rest of the ducks fly south for the winter, but there's nothing so odd about that. Chad, on the other hand, is one strange bird. Theodora quite likes him, but she can't overlook his odd habits. It's a good thing Chad has a normal friend like Theodora to set a good example for him. But who exactly is the odd duck here? Theodora may not like the answer"--Book jacket.

A great little comic, though not so great as Robot Dreams submitted by wampishing on June 24, 2013, 1:29pm Theodora the duck, prim, inquisitive, doesn't like her new neighbor Chad at first. He's messy, colorful, and fills his yard with absurd sculptures made of cardboard and cleaning supplies. But soon, Theodora realizes that while her neighbor doesn't share her manners, he does share her interest in things like stars, exciting books and salsa, things other ducks just don't enjoy. The two become fast friends, but a disagreement about which of them is the odd duck drives them apart. Is Chad really the only odd duck, here? Or is Theodora a little strange herself?

While charming, this story does not push the narrative form of comics like illustrator Sara Varon's impressive "Robot Dreams." Instead, the reader must appreciate the pastel-paletted, colored-line artwork on its visual value alone, making the identity of this story toe the line between picture book and graphic novel. Perhaps this indistinct definition of format is intentional - the somewhat conventional story of unlikely friendship is broken up into short chapters, the story provides young readers with a sense of accomplishment as they decode the text.

Great! submitted by zoe.dvh on August 7, 2014, 1:39pm This book is truly amazing! It really makes you think! I think it is great for kids and adults of any age. The pictures aren't crazy or confusing, either.
