A spy for the ages submitted by shermdock on August 25, 2016, 9:47pm Giving us a spy who is a brilliant and regular guy. George Smiley. I would save you from Ann. Portly Brits can be dreamy...

fascinating spy trade craft submitted by camelsamba on August 3, 2017, 9:23pm True confessions: I applied for jobs with the NSA and CIA as a senior in college. I didn't imagine myself as a spy on the ground per se, but in 1987 those (and Bible translation) were about the only places you could actually work in computational linguistics. So I've always had a bit of a soft spot for a good spy story. And this is a good spy story - full of interesting characters and ‘tradecraft.’

I listened to this as a book on CD and when I finished listening, I started it back up again - not necessarily because I thought it was riveting, but because I suspected I had missed some important bits the first time through. (I have a tendency to listen inattentively while doing other things.) And sure enough, even in the first chapter or two there were aha moments. The library also owns two different video versions, so if you want to be a George Smiley completist, be sure to get those as well!

Well-written and entertaining submitted by mcpapa on August 30, 2020, 8:00pm It is a book that you want to keep read until the end. George Smiley is an intriguing character! Worth-reading!
