Decidedly not carbon-neutral submitted by FordAlpha on June 28, 2018, 9:28pm Okay, so I'm a tree-hugger, an environmentally conscious citizen, a diligent recycler. I have solar panels on my roof. I should be completely disgusted with McToad. The carbon footprint generated by his and his lawnmower's weekly travel to minuscule Tiny Island (why does it need mowing anyway? Shouldn't it be left a natural ecosystem?) is enormous: truck, train, jet airplane, helicopter, ship, the lawnmower itself, all spewing fossil-fuel fumes. And yet, I love "McToad Mows Tiny Island". My kids want it read over and over, and somehow I don't tire of it. The marvelous dry wit of the text is perfectly matched by the stylish, gleeful illustrations (although the bright yellow ocean is a bit strange). My favorite moment is McToad taking a breather halfway through the mowing job, followed by the rear view as "McToad finishes mowing Tiny Island." Go ahead and just enjoy this environmentally naughty book with your kids.

Becoming a favorite submitted by JPollak on June 27, 2021, 5:09pm Pretty popular at our house with the 4-year-old crowd. It's a silly story with that absurdist humor that young children love. Bonus points for all the vehicles.
