This book is funny and teaches kids to compare different sizes, to share your toys, and not to judge people (or whales) based only on their looks. Great to read with a child just starting out but great for any age!

This Mo Willem book falls among his elite books, the first drafts, his All-star players.

Poor Piggie lost his big ball to a "big guy." Big guys get all the fun. Well Gerald will not have this injustice and is determined to do something about it! Until Gerald happens to see how big this "big guy" actually is. Then, in a turn of events we don't necessarily feel upset at the "big guy." We feel something unexpected for the "big guy." This feeling is something I will always promote in my home and I'm glad we got the chance to read this book.

This is one of the best of the series, with big elephant Gerald determined to avenge little Piggie for the loss of a big ball at the hands of a big bully. It turns out that the reported bully is a whale, so big as to make Gerald little--but he's not really a bully at all. Piggie's big ball was the whale's little ball all along. And when all three understand each other, they can enjoy playing together. The lesson is presented without fanfare or moralizing, but with relatable charm.
