Steps High? submitted by sisiyyang on August 14, 2011, 11:17am Speaking Rain has returned to Kaya's family, but Kaya still has 1 last fear-That she'll never see her beloved horse, Steps High, again. When Kaya hears of a herd of Nimiipuu Horses running wild in the mountains, she hopes Steps High is 1 of them. Will she ever see her horse again? Go on by reading the book! Enjoy!

Disappointing submitted by jgerman79 on August 5, 2020, 8:43pm I expected "Changes for Kaya" to have changes for Kaya in it. I was hoping for her vision quest and for the wedding. There was wedding preparation, but the book ended right before it. That was disappointing given that we had been gifted with descriptions of other Nez Percé rituals in other Kaya books, but not this one. There was only one passing mention of Kaya's vision quest, but it doesn't happen in this book. That was disappointing given the interactions with spirits and Stick people Kaya had in previous books, I really wanted that story line to be brought to it's climax! Kaya also didn't make it to the time of using her namesake's name. In the end, Kaya and her family are back where they were in book 1, with everyone (family and animals) they started with in book 1. Really... nothing changes for Kaya in this book! Except gaining another animal in her life I suppose. So very disappointing.

Not the best of the Kaya books submitted by laurat on June 21, 2022, 10:06pm Learning about Kaya's life and the Nez Percé traditions is an interesting departure from the other American Girl books I've read to my kids so far, but I was hoping there would be more plot development in this one.
