Just Okay submitted by purplewaves on July 23, 2019, 3:48pm The author takes a strong CBT, "your thoughts are the problem" approach to psychology. This isn't a surprise given the field's current landscape, but if it's something that can't work for your situation, or simply doesn't mesh with you as a person, then this book isn't super helpful. While I like the idea of taking care of your mental self as well as you'd take care of your physical self, the author came off as a tad creepy (and considerably fatphobic) when describing one patient in particular as going "from heavy to bombshell" after weight loss. He then blames her newfound hesitancy in dating men who would've been rude to her a few months and x pounds ago as a "personal problem" she simply had to overcome, rather than valuable insight into how people treat one another and what sorts of partners to pass up. That's a no from me, Dr. Guy.
