COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Eggplant and Blondie submitted by Caser on August 18, 2010, 11:55am My relationship with Blondie is remarkably similar to my relationship with eggplant. I used to loathe it, despise its existence. Years ago, my toddling brother drew a terrible picture of an eggplant with those over-sized crayons, and even that triggered my gag reflex. If a friend of mine brought up eggplant while I was within earshot, we might not be friends the next week. Purple on the outside, green on inside? Sick. Then, as an adult, I made a perfectly marinated, superbly baked eggplant Parmesan dish that made me want to put eggplant in absolutely everything I knew how to make.

If Blondie is eggplant, then The Best of Blondie is eggplant Parmesan. When I listen to the anthemic joy of Arcade Fire's latest record, The Suburbs, I hear Debbie Harry all over it. When I'm at work, I remind myself, "dreaming is free" and spend the whole day smiling. In the car? I'm thinking of getting a disco ball for the center light so I can blast "Heart of Glass" with the right atmosphere. Blondie and eggplant, thanks for waiting for me.

Disco submitted by markwells on June 22, 2022, 3:14pm Disco music was not looked upon fondly among my peers and myself growing up in the 1970s and 80s. Where I grew up rock n roll ruled. Blondie was different. I've always liked the catchiness of their hits. Rapture has the distinction of being one of the first songs featuring rap music. Anyway the best of Blondie is pretty good. Grade: B+

Not really Disco submitted by KidBlue on July 4, 2022, 6:07pm Blondie owes more to pop and girl groups than disco. I mean, the Bee Gees are disco and this isn't the the Bee Gees thank God. It's pop, and catchy pop at that. Songs like Sunday Girl show that Debbie Harry could sing, and Call Me proves she could rock.
