Only 3 stars for me submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on June 26, 2014, 10:09am I love the Taltos series, and it's probably time to re-read them from the beginning. Two things brought down my rating of this one.

First, the writing style changes so dramatically (even though it is clearly deliberate) that it dragged my reading experience down for a good long while till I made the adjustment from light dialog and prose of the start to the wordy and heavy narration of the end.

Second, I don't know if any other book in the series has quite so little of Vlad in it. And I don't know about you, but he's the reason I read the stories. So while those around him are quite fascinating characters as well, there just wasn't enough of the character I most pick up the book for.

That might not matter as much if I was reading the whole series in a row, but it's disappointing when I'm just reading one.
