Not a favorite submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 14, 2017, 10:53pm Meh. This was the story of a mom-of-one letting go of her daughter who is ready to go to college. In some ways, it might be that I'm not the intended audience, but if it's only written for mothers who are sending their kids to college, then it has a very narrow audience indeed. I couldn't even manage to stretch it to the variety of experiences of "letting children go" as they become their own independent selves. I thought that it meandered and dragged. I saw the ending coming from at least half way through the book. The conflict with the daughter was predictable.

I read once that a good romance (which this is not!) will have conflicts with each character within themselves, between the two main characters, and between the hero/heroine and the world. This story kind of hit those notes, though only from the mom's POV. She was conflicted about her roles, she had conflict with her daughter, and it was the two of them (historically) against the world... but now she had to let that go. But each of those layers felt like it could be stronger.

Not a favorite.
