"A Neal Porter Book."
Advises the reader about what to do, and not do, in order to successfully spot a whale, such as wrapping up in a not-too-cozy blanket, ignoring the roses, and especially, being patient.

stunning submitted by unknown on July 30, 2013, 2:22pm if you want to see a whale is the kind of book you can read night after night after night, and never be bored! It is absolutely lyrical, and the drawings are so comforting. Loved

sweet picture book! submitted by fairytale on August 16, 2013, 10:01am This is a sweet story perfect for bedtime. Calm and nice story!

Lyrical submitted by camelsamba on August 18, 2013, 10:52pm The prose is lilting and lyrical; the illustrations are charming and the color palette soothing. I like the overall message of being patient and observant, but the "don't look at X" parts are a bit off-putting, because all observation is honing your skill! But that's easy to look past, since a I said: lyrical, lilting, soothing, charming.

great picture book submitted by manz on November 11, 2013, 12:52pm This one is a winner! beautiful illustrations and simple yet alluring text.

Do YOU want to see a whale?! Check out this book.

Boys search for whale submitted by jackson.sarah.jean on February 6, 2016, 6:34pm An artistic and poetic book of a young boy's search for a whale. He is surrounded by the simple beauties nature offers and waits in patience as he sets out to spot a whale. This book is well liked by my children but I feel the beauty and poetic literature is more appreciated and recognized by an adult. Although it is beautiful it is not a book that stands out or will be remembered. It's missing something that takes it to that next level, it's close, but not close enough.

If You Want To See A Whale submitted by SBNB on August 22, 2018, 5:52pm This is a cute book about all the things you shouldn't look at if you want to see a whale. The pictures aren't vibrant, but they're nice.

Charming submitted by sarajowaycee on July 31, 2023, 3:43pm I love reading this sweet book to my son. I especially love that it is full of a sense of quiet anticipation and patience. I think it may slow my heart rate to read it! Contemplative and gentle.
