"For a generation that has largely said, "count me out," church represents a complicated relationship of both longing and apathy. There's a history there- a past full of confusion and hurt, but a past that often is impossible to abandon. In Searching for Sunday, Rachel Evans exposes her own thorny relationship with the church, articulating the concerns, frustration, and hopes of many of her peers."-- back cover.

Comforting book submitted by Trudie G on July 26, 2020, 11:42am The book, Searching for Sunday: Loving, Finding and Leaving the Church by Rachel Held Evans was a comforting testimonial of Rachel's journey of her Christian faith. I had not really heard a lot about her until her untimely death at the age of 37 in 2019. And of my favorite Christian writers, Nadia Bolz- Weber often referenced her work. She challenged the evangelical churches' views on politics, sexuality and politics. This book chronicles her early church life in a very conservative Christian church as she examines and deeply questions why she believed the way she did. She started a church, stopped going to church and then eventually found a church that fit her progressive beliefs. I too, have had a difficult relationship with church. The book brought me comfort in knowing I have had a journey that has been filled with misgivings, but also, the simple truth that always leads me home: by grace through faith we are saved.

excellent for a faith crisis submitted by kallanml on June 21, 2022, 10:47am This is an excellent, touching, funny read that is great for anyone wrestling with their religious upbringing, particularly those raised in conservative Christianity.
