COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Better than Dragons? submitted by sally.m.maier on June 18, 2023, 3:09pm I came to Anne McCaffrey’s work through the Dragonrider’s series, as I expect most of us have, but this series is one of the ones that sticks with me most. There are some parts that haven’t aged particularly well, but the plot itself, the situation of starting a new colony, surviving on an alien world, and doing it all while mixing multiple human and alien cultures is quite compelling.

The story does hit a bit to close to “everything goes perfectly and people are intrinsically wonderful and logical” but I can overlook both that and the romance-novel overtones for a good story about starting anew.

I find myself going back to the series again and again for this story of average people coming together to form a new world and saving the universe through coffee and compassion.
