"Maps by Kayley LeFaiver."
Young King Jaron has taken the throne of Carthya, but after enemies attempt to assassinate him, and a neighboring kingdom threatens invasion, he finds that he has no friends in the palace, not even his bride-to-be, princess Amarinda--and his regents think it would be better for Carthya if he just disappeared again.

Great read submitted by DL on July 28, 2013, 7:13pm This is the second in the trilogy and has adventure, conspiracies, pirates and royal court. Loved it! Can't wait for the next book.

Decent submitted by dragon_rider13 on July 31, 2018, 10:07pm Not bad, but also not too interesting. I read it several times while I was obsessed with the series, not the best.

Nicely done submitted by 2025MJW on August 4, 2020, 8:51am The Runaway King is a great book, and has all is the adventure and wittiness of The False Prince. I, for one, could have done without getting pirates involved in the plot line, but they do end up being a crucial piece in the Ascendance trilogy.

Fine submitted by jnfenske on August 29, 2020, 2:02pm This book is great in some parts but in others, it’s not as good
