Old school early reader submitted by FordAlpha on August 8, 2019, 9:55pm My parents' generation had "Dick, Jane, and Spot." My generation had Syd Hoff. My kids have Mo Willems. Kids today definitely have it good!

"Sammy the Seal" and other Syd Hoff books figured large in my own early reading, but they're as wholly unnecessary to kids now as Dick and Jane were to me. They're nice enough, pleasant, stilted, outdated. Not bad, just no longer needed.
