not my cup of tea submitted by camelsamba on August 22, 2023, 10:33pm I don't remember how I came across this title or why I decided to get it from they library. It says it is a "companion to Between the Lines" but in my opinion it’s more like a sequel. (For some reason, I got it into my head that 'companion' plus the mother-daughter writing team meant it was a version of the other book aimed at teens, rather than part of a series.) Without the back story, there was not much to make me like the main characters - they mainly come across as two slightly annoying teenagers who are "madly in love" (perhaps I’m too cynical, but can your first dating relationship really be true love?) and somewhat obnoxious about it. And the mechanics of the fairy-tale-book-world remained somewhat opaque. Despite difficulty getting into the plot or connecting with the characters, I did finish the book. Alas, it didn't really get much better - except perhaps the relationship between Edgar and his mother. Clearly I'm not the target audience.
