Slow start, Great book submitted by Ilyjtwya on June 12, 2015, 8:45pm I decided to read this book because of the references I see to it. I read the first chapter over the course of several weeks because I had such a difficult time getting into it, and it frankly put me to sleep. I'm so glad I stuck with it, it was a great book and became more engrossing as I got farther into it. It was also very interesting to get an intimate look at what life was like many year ago.

Pretty good submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 2:33pm It was pretty boring in the beginning, but got better as I kept reading.

Classic submitted by TLW1998 on July 23, 2019, 8:54pm This classic is worth reading. It is truly a great book.

Hawthorne's magnum opus is an appealing psychological novel, rich in a symbolism submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 26, 2019, 3:18am The scarlet letter is an embroidered "A" that a puritanical, 17-century Boston society forces an adulterous Hester Prynne to wear in shame. Hawthorne reveals this community's failure to understand and change societal meanings. Read this impressive inquiry into the nature of American Puritanism and the New England conscience. For admirers of American history, this novel provides a great portrait of the individualism and self-reliance that emerged from America's puritan and conformist roots.

Interesting Ideas About Social Constructs, But Difficult to Get Through submitted by carcat15 on June 15, 2022, 10:51am Being referenced so often in modern day culture, The Scarlet Letter is a good classic to read. It was interesting to read about societal norms from centuries before us, but the book was very slow to get through and not a very exciting read.

It’s going to require some effort, but a good read! submitted by amandasaurus on June 19, 2022, 6:16pm It’s a slow start, and there’s lots of symbolism and things that are hinted at, so you really have to do your due diligence and pay attention. Which isn’t a bad thing-that’s what I love about older novels.

A must read submitted by crp on August 9, 2022, 1:53am Every person should read this article to better understand the cultural reference.
