charming submitted by unknown on April 24, 2011, 9:08am The tale of the No1 Ladies Detective Agency continues its charming saga

Like a Visit with a Dear Friend submitted by ProQuestTag2012 on July 15, 2011, 2:56pm When the real world becomes too loud and too harsh, my favorite refuge is the world of Precious Ramotswe, tenderhearted owner of Botswana’s Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency. In Mma Ramotswe’s world at the edge of the scorching Kalahari Desert, there is always time to help a friend, solve a mystery, and enjoy a cup of bush tea with her trusted assistant, Grace Makutsi.

In "The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party," Mma Ramostwe must solve a number of mysteries. Who is killing her client’s cattle? Where is Charlie, her husband’s apprentice mechanic? What really happened to her beloved white van? And for fans of the series, there is a joyful, long-awaited wedding!

Tension, good humor, wisdom, and kindness fill the pages of this book. I recommend the entire series. Each is like a welcome visit from a dear friend.

Another Good Entry submitted by Sara W on August 2, 2011, 9:42pm I thoroughly enjoyed "The Saturday Big Tent Wedding Party" - the Moeti mystery was more intriguing and actually mysterious than many of Mma Ramotswe's recent cases and as always, I am charmed by Mma Makutsi's relationship with her shoes and Alexander McCall Smith's perfect one-line summaries of warm emotions like contentment and gratitude.

I thought Mma Makutsi's wedding to Phuti didn't get quite as much attention as it deserved and instead, her plot line was much more focused on an expensive purchase she made, ruined, and had to tell Phuti about. I liked it better the first time this occurred in their relationship, when she bought that bed.

Charlie and Fanwell are getting a good deal more attention these days - and they deserve it. Their characters are emerging nicely from just being two greasy, careless apprentices and I love to see them becoming more distinct and interesting in their own ways.

you already have to be a fan to thoroughly enjoy this submitted by camelsamba on June 16, 2012, 10:37pm I have relatives who are big fans of this series, so when i saw it available in the kindle lending library, i checked it out. I've previously listened to the first couple in the series as BOCD, so I knew the basic premise and the character of Precious Ramotswe, but was not familiar with the whole cast of characters or their histories. I don't think that detracted from the story, but I could be wrong. What really bugged me about the book is the way the author goes off on tangents all the time - page long memories of some tiny detail, set off by a word or a fleeting glimpse of an object. I suspect that's what his fans like, though, so my opinion is bound to be an outlier!
