4.5 Stars submitted by sugarmagnolia on July 11, 2011, 12:12pm I really liked this book. Interesting concept. Interesting non-linear narrative. I can't imagine how long it took to write and organize it- to choose the words for each vignette. I loved it, but not enough for 5 stars. It just didn't get there for me

Interesting Concept submitted by katieh on July 12, 2011, 10:05am I was surprised how well the author translated his story into dictionary form. I expected it to feel forced or like it was trying to hard, but I was pleasantly surprised at how well this format worked. Even though this is a quick read, I had to force myself to finish. The narrator was so self-pitying and unsympathetic that I could not connect to the story at all.

Certainly better than Webster's Dictionary submitted by scooterpie on July 17, 2011, 12:03pm I felt this book was more representative of a traditional "love story" by being structured the way it was. By having everything out of order and having the reader try to follow which parts go where made Lover's Dictionary seem more like how a person would actually recall a relationship from memory. I can't imagine how long it took to write this book and jumble it up to create the definitions he did, but it worked well. A highly recommended (and quick) read.

Interesting experiment submitted by klickitat on August 6, 2012, 8:52am A very interesting experiment and well done. Still, I feel the non-traditional autopsy of a relationship was done better elsewhere; namely, The Last Five Years (one act musical) and the book Important Artifacts and Personal Property from the Collection of Lenore Doolan and Harold Morris, Including Books, Street Fashion, and Jewelry.
