COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Beautiful first novel submitted by ingahuff on April 3, 2011, 7:23pm This story may not be for everyone as it covers some taboo topics, but I do have to say that it is beautifully written and a compelling story. The protagonist, a chimpanzee named Bruno, tells the story of his life to where he is now. This is not your run of the mill life. Full of fun, sometimes vulgar language, but always in context. Toward the end I slowed down my reading pace as I didn't want the story to end. This is a treasure for lovers of words, animals, and stories. I truly enjoyed this piece and anxiously await the next novel from Mr. Hale.

I can't do it submitted by eringogreen on August 18, 2011, 9:01pm I really was enjoying this novel and think it is well written and intriguing. I read some other reviews from readers that had stopped after 150 pages because it got too vulgar at parts and I was determined to get through it, because I knew it would get better. It does, sort of. I got about halfway through. But it just doesn't let you forget about the "love" part of this story, which I would really like to do. I get it to an extent and would like to see where it goes, but I just can't get myself to keep reading, knowing where I think it will probably go.

If anyone gets through the whole thing and had the same trouble I did, let me know! I'd like to give it another chance, but think I need a break from the tough-to-swallow subject matter.
