Love it! submitted by sara on July 13, 2013, 1:06pm I love this mystery series about a White House chef.

different direction for Ollie submitted by camelsamba on July 17, 2015, 7:39pm When the book opens, Ollie is visiting her mom and grandma in Chicago. She is determined to find out more about her father, but the news she receives only confuses and frustrates her. On her return to DC, she sets out to learn more (such as how her father could have been buried in Arlington if he was dishonorably discharged) - but she gets shut down or warned away at every turn.

Meanwhile, Josh (the younger of the First Kids) has developed an interest in cooking, so Ollie is working with him when she has a few free hours - much to the frustration of Virgil, who is still a weasel. Sargeant, on the other hand, is turning into an almost decent human being. And what of Special Agent Gavin? Let's just say Ollie's mom and grandma approve of him.

What is different about this addition to the series is that Ollie is intentionally investigating her father's death, rather than having some matter of intrigue plopped into her apron pocket. Of course it wouldn't be a cozy mystery if the main character didn't get put into peril in the course of her investigations. This time it doesn't end up in the papers or on the 5:00 news - but it does get Ollie (and Gav) an invitation into the Oval Office.

Good plot, good character development, and ends with a cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next one!

Gripping submitted by kathscot on July 12, 2022, 8:36pm I read through this series so quickly - lots of action and an interesting setting.
