Fantastic! submitted by VHAVILAND on June 19, 2017, 3:17pm This book is in my top five favorite books, not a small thing for a former English teacher with a PhD in the subject. Glass interweaves a multigenerational story of Scottish immigrants and their honest struggles with love and finding meaning and connection with attention to detail and language that never veers into the self-referential or too precious. This family stays with you, and the story unfolds with surprises and a calm charm. Highly recommend.

Appealing "Memoir" of a Family submitted by sVfGI7Glt2pz7GZgVB90 on August 20, 2020, 11:58am Besides writing engaging characters that are so fully formed, you almost expect them to step from the page. Glass also brings scenes so distinctly to life that I found myself squinting at descriptions of Greece's sharp sunlight and feeling sentimental for places I'd never been. The Scottish McLeod family with their secrets and betrayals, longings, and heartbreaks will engage and delight you.
