A Gentle Stroll through Some Great Lakes Ecology and History submitted by sdunav on July 16, 2020, 4:37pm I liked this memoir/travel guide even more than the first volume (A 1000-Mile Walk on the Beach), which covered the author's hike around Lake Michigan. In this book, she walks parts of all the Great Lakes - just a bit of Lake Erie, from Port Clinton through Toledo to Detroit, then up some of Lake Huron on Michigan's east coast, a stroll up and down the Leelanau Peninsula, a bit of Lake Superior in the UP (including Pictured Rocks), and Lake Ontario from Belleville east and around Niagara Falls.

As with the first book, her description of some of her days are interspersed with wonderful bits of geology, ecology, and history, both of the individual portions of her hike, and of the Great Lakes as a whole. She refrains from too much personal philosophy and introspection (unlike Cheryl Strayed's "Wild", for instance), which I found refreshing. Highly recommended for anyone interested in our Great Lakes! Also, this particular book is hard to find - not available for kindle, unlike the other volumes.
