One of my favorites submitted by mclanem on June 21, 2011, 11:39am This book, along with its sequal (Children of God), are one of my favorite series. It ranks up there with the Lord of the Rings, and Hitchhikers Guide.

I think I have read this book 3 or 4 times.

excellent sci-fi submitted by 21621031390949 on July 20, 2018, 2:16pm Wow. Just wow. I don't usually go for sci-fi, but this was excellent.

Lots of anthroplogy submitted by teri on August 12, 2018, 10:53am It took me 50 pages or so to get into this book, then it took off. Russell's academic background as an anthropologist enables her to branch out in directions we wouldn't always think to take. Jesuits, first contact with alien worlds, the mistakes we make. An interesting read.

Can't get it out of my mind submitted by suttonp on June 11, 2021, 4:20pm What an interesting book. Sci-fi is usually not my thing, but the Bibliophiles on AADL.TV recommended this book, so I gave it a try. It was fascinating and thought provoking. I am still musing on the issues of morality, hubris and spirituality it engendered. Strongly recommend

Read it more than once submitted by Emily Jennings on July 25, 2023, 11:10pm This is one of those books that sticks with you. It’s an excellent read for the story alone but there are deeper themes here that are worth reflecting on with multiple readings.
