After she and a dozen other children found them being raised by "Father," a cruel man with mysterious powers, Carolyn and her "siblings" begin to think he might be God; so when he dies, they square off against each other to determine who will inherit his library, which they believe holds the power to all Creation.

beware submitted by Judeyblu on October 25, 2015, 12:45pm This is a story to read snug at home during the chill of Autumn.
It opens on an October day, as a woman wanders, bloodied and barefoot, down a secluded country road.
She joins her companions, all shades of gruesome, all orphans raised by the Father, as the eternal struggle of Evil continues.
Comparisons to American Gods are there, but as Gaiman takes his time to bloom the colors of humanity, good and faith in American Gods, Hawkins slams concepts at you so quickly you are left holding your breath and blinking.
-> I must note: this book is more graphic in descriptions of cruelty than Joe Hill’s Heart-Shaped Box, which is, I think, saying something. If you are not ready for pages of detailed cruelty, then pass this book by.

Of gods and war submitted by kgolden65 on July 27, 2018, 2:39pm The library in the title makes it sound like it would be some bookish mystery, but it is not. Characters with god-like abilities who act like people are playthings. It is a compelling story which drives you forward through all the graphic details. It ends well, but what a ride!
