Good recommendation by my 9yo
submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 2, 2015, 2:59pm
My 9 y.o. read this, loved it, and insisted that I MUST read it as well. She gives good recommendations.
This was very well done, and is easily appropriate for 3rd grade to middle school. It covers topics as wide-ranging as anxiety, family dynamics, severe illness, aging, friendship, and, of course, magic pencils that give you answers... and how you should be responsible for that tool and knowledge. I enjoyed the book, thought the author handled a variety of difficult issues with sensitivity and care, and heard that a large number of 3rd and 4th graders loved it as well. It would make for great discussion between adults and children, or just a fun read for a kid.
Highly recommended for the youth or youth-and-parent-shared set.
Excellent book submitted by Nicolas Langdon on July 18, 2015, 2:39pm I thought the book was very well written. It had a good storyline about a girl who finds a regular old, junky pencil and it becomes a magical pencil that tells her all the answers. It made me feel sad, but also really good because of the ending. I would recommend this for people who love magical stories.
