Ahh. : ) submitted by meliskim on August 2, 2011, 7:08pm This is one of my favorite books. James Baldwin really delves into the homosexuality of an American writer in Paris, in a beautifully written exploration of a then-scandalous affair with an Italian bartender named Giovanni. This is not only a vividly painful and personal reflection of his own sexuality but a extremely intriguing way to discuss the "American in Paris" phenomenon that was taking place at the time.
Baldwin is a brilliant writer submitted by majean on August 9, 2018, 6:56pm James Baldwin has the most amazing way with words, and he balances so many things in this book. One of my favorite lines in literature is found in this novel: "Love him,' said Jacques, with vehemence, 'love him and let him love you. Do you think anything else under heaven really matters?"
