Middle grade TRUE GRIT homage submitted by klickitat on March 1, 2013, 7:04pm I liked this a lot but found the resolution too convenient and pat. Without giving anything away, there's a big switcheroo at the end that cuts the legs out from the impressive emotional depths reached earlier in the novel. Highly recommended for young Western fans (even if this native Oregonian questions whether Wisconsin is "the West"), especially those interested in a strong female protagonist. Georgie is a great character and one I really liked spending time with. Her voice really came alive on the page. I bet an audiobook would be fantastic. OCH reminded me of books I loved as a kid and I hope kids find it and like it too.

Amazing submitted by Justin Shim on June 14, 2014, 12:16pm One came home is about love, sharp shooting, and losing your family and friends. I hope others love this book, cause it is incredible!

hero(ine)'s journey submitted by camelsamba on July 6, 2018, 9:14pm Combination hero's journey, historical fiction, adventure, and mystery - with authentic natural history (passenger pigeons) and a strong female protagonist to boot.
