She highlights the details of her journey, from her preparation in Ann Arbor to adapting to the culture of the mountain monasteries, all with a marvelous sense of humor. As with Geri's other memoirs, "First You Shave Your Head" is genuine from the very first page. She encounters numerous struggles as one of the first women from the western world to visit these monasteries in South Korea. At the same time, Geri experiences tremendous growth in her Buddhist practice.
