Four Stars submitted by go blue girl on February 21, 2010, 10:48am A well-written story that has a fresh take on a robin-hood like heroine. Sure there are lots of stories out there about girls who pretend to be boys, cut of all their long luscious hair, and parade off to steal from the rich and give to the poor. But Sovay is different from all those other heroines. Partially because of the reason she dresses as a highwayman; namely love. But also because she is just so relatable.
I love Celia Rees, and her use of personifaction, among other things in this novel, is great.
My only complaint, or suggestion is that you brush up on your history before reading this, because otherwise some parts may take a while to comprehend.

Boooorring submitted by jmock on January 10, 2011, 2:55pm This book was so boring, I had to skip to the end. First of all, the story takes forever to move forward. I'm sort of okay with that, as long as it's relevant. the problem was, it was not. I mean, the story was pretty good. If it hadn't been, I wouldn't have skipped to the end. It could be because I have no patience, but I don't know. Other people seemed to like it. Oh, an I liked the cover too.

Sovay 4 stars, Pirates 5 submitted by adipirro on July 6, 2011, 7:10pm I liked this book overall. However, the book started out slow and there were parts of it that I wasn't a fan of. After the story began to speed up it was hard to put down and by the last quarter of it I really couldn't put it down.

Although this book was good it couldn't beat Celia Rees' other book, "Pirates." If I hadn't read "Pirates" first I may have thought better of Sovay because overall it was a good book, but I think "Pirates" tainted my judgment of this work.

So basically for anyone reading this who hasn't read "Pirates" yet, I would recommend reading this one first so you aren't judging it based on "Pirates".

Boring submitted by ColeenT on July 15, 2011, 2:30pm Wasn't my favorite

enjoyable submitted by jennifer-ricks on August 18, 2011, 3:59pm I enjoyed this book but I will agree it wasn't as fast paced as pirates by the same author.

Pirates submitted by glennauerbach on June 16, 2012, 4:19pm The pirates were obviously the best part of the book. It was really good, though.

Okay submitted by zmclaugh on July 26, 2018, 12:31pm An interesting plot, but Sovay is very boring as a main character because thing always go her way.
