Bees Bees Bees submitted by Brad B. on March 3, 2009, 2:50pm While not her best book by far, I still found Chalice to be quite enjoyable. Marisol is thrust into the role of Chalice, one who uses goblets with water, wine, and/or -in her case- honey, to bind and settle the land. An unsteady new Master of the land, romance, and political backstabbing set up this very unique tale. It’s very creative, and the language is lush, as always. It takes a couple chapters to get used to her writing style if you are not familiar with it. But, once you do, this book, like some of Robin Mckinnley’s other books, does well the job of striking resonance with the reader, depicting subtle aspects of human nature through prose in a way other fantasy books do not. She does complex YA fantasy quite well, and while her other books like the Hero and the Crown were better this is still an enjoyable tale full of her signature style.

Faith and a whole lot of honey submitted by SolaireFQ on July 16, 2016, 3:37pm One of my favorite McKinley books, this centers around two new and newly paired protectors of a land. They have to build trust in each other and heal a sick land while fighting obstacles from others. And bees are crucial to the whole thing.

First Robin McKinley submitted by www.net on July 22, 2018, 11:04pm This was the first book I read by Robin McKinley, and I really enjoyed it. After dicovering them, I have come to enjoy her other books more, though I have re-read this once or twice. I would recommend this book for younger kids (maybe 5th grade?)

Sticky Story submitted by thesrays on June 24, 2020, 11:35pm While I agree with other reviewers that this isn't McKinley's best work, I still enjoyed her world creation, the honor of her characters, and ...of course...the bees magical honey. It's a story that will stick with you.
