A Weirdo Saves Christmas submitted by Meginator on August 27, 2022, 5:55pm This is a typical Tacky the Penguin adventure, in which the titular penguin’s idiosyncracies upend the traditional penguins’ traditions and lives yet end up saving the day anyway. The moral message about difference being a source of strength doesn’t come across too strongly, with the story itself taking precedence, and Tacky’s peculiarities and his boundless enthusiasm are generally accepted by his straight-laced penguin companions. The story humorously reinvents some familiar Christmas traditions in an Antarctic context and even offers a slight bit of tension toward the end, although the suspense lasts for only a page or two and the book is generally very gentle. This book will be a hit with fans of the series, although newcomers may want to start with the original book for some important context about the characters.
