Love this book submitted by tiana on June 18, 2011, 4:29pm This book is a great adventure. The main character learns a lot about himself and about nature. I remember reading this when I was a kid and now I'm reading it to my 6 year old son. He loves it, just as I did.

Go, Sam, Go! submitted by Sara W on August 10, 2011, 9:20pm Sam Gribley isn't your normal kid, and this isn't your normal book. It's half plot, half survival narrative. Thanks to this book, I can spot a mayapple at a hundred paces and I always have an eye out for jack-in-the-pulpits. This book is a happy combination of a good coming-of-age story and the author's love of the wild. I admire Sam's ingenuity and independence and his capacity for making friends, be it Frightful or Bando. It's a great appreciation of nature and a very enjoyable story from start to finish. Go Sam!

Okay? submitted by TripleH123 on August 26, 2011, 9:18pm This was an okay book?

Great Book and Great Series submitted by Chiefs8 on June 19, 2012, 7:31am This book is the start of a series about a boy named Sam who leaves home and lives in the Catskill Mountains. It's a great adventure book and once I finished it, I read the rest of the series.

Great Read! submitted by alexaeaster on June 16, 2013, 7:35am This book is similar to Gary Paulsen's writing, but unlike Gary Paulsen's books I loved this story of survival and independence.

Loved it submitted by lec.dank on June 23, 2013, 7:27pm Seriously. Read it now. You won't regret it

Loved this 35 years ago submitted by sarai koster-mockeridge on July 21, 2015, 12:20pm This was one of my favorites growing up. I'm excited to introduce it to my own kids.

Better than the movie submitted by AprilCDB on August 31, 2015, 12:35pm Don't bother to see the movie, the book is far better. It's a great coming-of-age story that will appeal to boys and girls alike.

Inspiring submitted by lbootzin on July 8, 2016, 4:48pm I remember trying to make acorn pancakes as a kid because of this book.

Amazing Book! submitted by avakunnath on June 26, 2019, 5:07pm I’ve read this book often for the last few years. The storyline is amazing and it captures the childlike excitement in the fantasy of running away from home and living on your own. I love wilderness survival and this book captured my interest. There’s nothing I would change about it and I reccomend it to everyone!

My Side of the Mountain submitted by SBNB on July 7, 2021, 8:30pm Surprisingly good book about a boy who leaves home to live in the wilderness.
