COMMUNITY REVIEWS
One of my favorites as a kid submitted by willow on August 13, 2016, 5:39am I have no clear memory of just why I read this book as a kid, but I did -- and it became one of my favorites! I read and retread it, and it stuck with me. Jean Fritz, who has written so many books about history (which I did not read as a child but have read to my own children), writes in this one about herself. As the child of American missionaries, she grew up in China under British control until she was 12, and this book explorers what it was like to live in this mix, and also how she developed an American identity before ever having been to the U.S.
Great Read Aloud submitted by thesrays on August 25, 2019, 7:31pm We read this together as a family and greatly enjoyed the trials and adventures of an author whose books on history we love.
