great book submitted by cmburns on February 4, 2010, 5:26pm I really enjoyed this mystery. The setting in Iceland was very interesting. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an original mystery that takes place in a different (for me) culture. A reviewer on amazon.com noted that the copy he read had many English errors- not this edition, I am now looking for another book in this series.

super mystery submitted by manz on December 19, 2013, 1:33pm This is a great novel! A wonderful mystery! I love this series by Indridason. Detective Erlendur is so solemn and likeable. I higly recommend this book, and the the two in the series that follow it: Silence of the Grave and Voices.

Slice of Iceland submitted by robinpollak on June 13, 2023, 8:59am For me the mystery component of this book was ok, but what I liked most was the development of Detective Erlendur as a character. I also really liked the evocative description of setting and the feeling of place in Iceland. I feel like I understand more about the Icelandic outlook now than I did before reading this book. I would read more in the Detective Erlendur series.
