Just before World War I, two men--one a noble Russian emissary, the other a denizen of Europe's underground--set in motion a concatenation of world-shaking, ultimately fatal events--Novelist.

COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A Solid Thriller with Two-Dimensional Characters submitted by SoCalHistorian on June 20, 2020, 3:54pm Ken Follett crafts a dramatic narrative about a Russian extremist's efforts to kill a Russian aristocrat on a secret mission to England that may, if successful, lead to dramatic changes in World War 1. The cat-and-mouse between the assassin and the English lord who is hosting the visiting Russian (and whose family has a dark past with the assassin) is tense and well-crafted. However, apart from the assassin all the characters are two-dimensional and almost read as parodies of the English nobility. If you can overlook that though, you'll be rewarded by a solid thriller.
