The first book in a series of 15 rhyming stories developed to help children learn to read. Each book is designed for an adult and child to read together and introduces new letters or reading patterns and reinforces material from previous books. Includes puzzles to reinforce new skills, and guidance notes on reading with children. In this story, Pirate Pat appears on a cold, dark night with a treasure map and proceeds to dig over Gran's objections.

Pirate Pat submitted by SBNB on August 22, 2018, 10:46pm This book has a part for the parent to read and a part for the child to read on each page. My daughter didn't like sharing the reading time, but the story was nice.

Pirate Pat is Decodable submitted by falling2 on July 24, 2021, 6:22am Pirate Pat is the first book in the Very First Reading series of decodable readers by Usborne. The pages alternate between one page meant to be read by the parent and one meant to be read by the child. In this way, the child's text is limited only to phonics skills they have learned, but the book as a whole still tells a story. Each book in the series introduces a new set of phonics skills so that the child is building on the knowledge they've already gained without guessing at words they haven't learned to sound out. At the end there are notes for the parent or teacher about what skills are covered and puzzles to check for comprehension and provide reinforcement. Since there is only one book in the series for each set of phonics skills, you will probably need to find other decodable books to provide more practice. Nevertheless, this is a great series of colorful and interesting stories to get kids excited about reading. Check out Usborne's website for a free activity sheet to accompany each reader in the series.
