Fantastic submitted by rkraut on July 21, 2013, 10:29am This is a warm book with beautiful drawings that exposes the emotional underpinnings of making fun of kids who are "other," and that also shares how forgiveness works.

oldie but goodie submitted by Kathy Brzoznowski on July 24, 2014, 9:20am read this book for my second grade girls book club. loved it!

The Hundred Dresses submitted by AprilCDB on August 31, 2015, 11:46am A simple story about a complex aspect of life. It explores the influence classmates have on each other, how teasing leads to bullying, and how quickly remorse can turn to regret. It also considers how poverty plays a role in the social dynamics of life in the school yard.

Still Relevant submitted by krathje on August 2, 2016, 2:02pm A woman looks back on a regrettable season on her childhood during which she stayed silent while a classmate was bullied. It's a sweet story that surely resonates in the hearts of children and adults even today.

Classic submitted by rachelmcglash on August 15, 2018, 3:10pm This was one of my favorites while growing up.

Great message submitted by hart on June 30, 2023, 9:34am I really liked this story is based on a true story and is so applicable in today's world, as well. Great message of forgiveness and kindness.

A lesson about the importance of empathy wrapped up in a beautifully told story submitted by Diananana on July 15, 2023, 11:25pm I have loved this book since I was a child and have read it to my children and my grandchild. We can teach children the golden rule, but it's much better to show them. This story does that. Maddie's friend, Peggy thinks it's all in good fun to tease Wanda Petronski, a new girl who lives in a dismal place on the outskirts of town and has only one shabby dress. Maddie becomes uncomfortable with this game, but is afraid to stop Peggy, fearing she may become the next object of teasing, as her family is not so well off itself. They both learn how wrong they have been after Wanda moves away. Written in 1944, the setting may feel dated to some, but the message still comes through crystal clear.

Good message for kids submitted by denisekim on August 22, 2023, 11:32pm I really enjoyed this book when I was a kid, and appreciate now how it handles themes of socioeconomic disparity
