I don't get it (though it's well written)

3/5 stars. I really have no idea how to rate this, for several reasons. First, it's a play, and it's meant to be acted out and watched, not read. That all by itself makes it hard for me to figure out how to rate it as something that I *read*. Second, it's a moment in time of people at their worst. Two people who are absolutely cruel to each other, and then display this cruelty in front of others. Then not only display it in front of others, but draw the others in and make them part of the vicious circle. It's abhorrent. I spend pretty much all of the time I was reading it wondering why anyone would write about a moment like this, or why anyone would want to spend two hours watching it. The revelation and climax did not enlighten me in that regard.
Is it well-written? Yes. Are the characters vibrant and rich? Absolutely. They have history and nuance and we get pulled into their messed up lives. If that's the measure of a good story, then this was a good book/ play. But it was a slice of a detestable moment in a couple's life, and I hated nearly every minute of reading it for that reason.
