At New York City's Central Park Zoo, two male penguins fall in love and start a family by taking turns sitting on an abandoned egg until it hatches.

true love store between men submitted by ferdoble on July 30, 2011, 4:54pm What I love about this story is that even though it is about an alternative couple that is not the focus of the book. The focus is about the love that they share and that makes it far more powerfull.

Cute and Educational submitted by cbrewster on August 17, 2013, 1:27pm Great way to introduce alternate lifestyles other than the "norm" to young children. Kids are able to see that it doesn't matter who makes up your family, it only matters that they share love.

Wishing I had loved it submitted by LibraryMaven on June 15, 2014, 11:36am Putting aside the firestorm of controversy that accompanied poor Tango this book is…okay. I wanted to really like this book, but have serious reservations. The biggest issue with Tango is its inexactitude. It wavers somewhere between fiction and nonfiction, and does not make clear what is what. There is clear anthropomorphizing going on in the text and illustrations, yet at the same time, the story of the two male penguins in the Central Park Zoo that hatched a chick together is true (and somewhat more information is given in a endnote at the back of the book.) The illustrations are sweet, and making a penguin anything other than cute is difficult, but overall they don’t stand out. The whole book was a little too sweet for me, and the emphasis on different kinds of families a little much. Which is a shame, because the story of Roy and Silo and Tango really is a great one, and deserves a really great picture book to go with it. We’ve moved past the point where we can applaud LGBTQ kid’s books for simply existing; it’s time to ask for books that are as well written and well-illustrated as well. However, if you are looking for a sweet book (with penguins!) about what makes a family, this is a good bet.

Great Family Kids’ Book submitted by ChallngOfTheStrs on June 15, 2019, 11:42am I really loved both the storytelling and imagery for this title! It’s provides us with proof that homosexuality naturally occurs in animals and teaches us the importance of commitment and true love. An overall heart-warming story; and who doesn’t love penguins?

And Tango Makes Three submitted by lstorc on July 20, 2019, 5:23pm This is a great family story! The characters are relatable and artwork beautiful.

Would love to go see! submitted by Xris on May 31, 2022, 11:57pm Though I'm not sure how long chinstrap penguins live. I love that this book shows that in nature, there are different kinds of families. Beautiful pictures and a great message. I'd buy this for future grandkids!
