A contemporary Little Red submitted by FordAlpha on July 6, 2018, 11:01pm In addition to being sprinkled with Spanish words and phrases--which, nicely, often supply the rhymes--this take on "Little Red Riding Hood" is contemporary in setting, with an ailing grandmother passing the time in bed on her Apple laptop computer. Many other up-to-date references join the traditional border-region / northern Mexico imagery in the illustrations. The story also puts a heroic, feminist twist on our heroine, with the wolf impersonating the little girl rather than her grandmother; Abuela rather than Little Red voicing the "what big eyes, what big ears" litany; and the titular character rather than some outside male rescuer chasing off the wolf, saving the grandmother, and coming up with a solution to prevent any recurrence of the problem. Overall, it's a fun telling, but may not have the timeless quality that demands endless re-readings.
